Hull City is in discussions to recruit Ryan Giles of Luton Town.

Ryan Giles, a defender, is allegedly in negotiations with Luton Town about joining on loan before the January transfer window closes.
The 23-year-old joined the newly promoted Hatters in the summer after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he has only started five Premier League games so far due to his struggles to get consistent playing time.

Giles had a breakout season in 2022–23 while on loan at Middlesbrough, when he played as a wing-back and contributed 11 assists in 47 games in the second division for Michael Carrick’s team.

Nonetheless, the defender had previously had stints at Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City, so this was not his first loan away from Wolves. He also played for the England Under-20 national team.

The Daily Mail claims that Hull and Luton are negotiating the prospect of having Giles visit the MKM Stadium during this winter window.

According to the source, the changeover would only be in place temporarily, lasting until the conclusion of the 2023–24 season, in an effort to increase the Tigers’ chances of making the playoffs.

It is believed that the deal between the Hatters and Hull would include an obligation to purchase, with the Humberside club paying £4.25 million for the wing-back in the summer.

In an attempt to approve their own signings this month, it’s said that Rob Edwards’ team is willing to let Giles look for consistent playing time elsewhere.

Hull is just one point behind Coventry City, which is currently in sixth place in the Championship standings, in the competition to qualify for the Premier League via the playoffs.

By bringing in Fabio Carvalho on loan from Liverpool during the January transfer season, the team under Liam Rosenior has already demonstrated a strong desire to strengthen their roster.

The Portuguese winger, who played the first half of the season at RB Leipzig, was an integral member of Marco Silva’s Fulham team that dominated the second division in 2021–2022.

Since Luton has been playing with a back five lately, Edwards has been starting Alfie Doughty at wing-back, leaving Giles on the bench.

The 24-year-old Doughty, a former Stoke City player, assisted Carlton Morris’s late equaliser in the Premier League matchup at Turf Moor against relegation rivals Burnley. It was Morris’s sixth goal of the season.

The Hatters will take on Everton in the FA Cup on Saturday, with a trip to the round of sixteen at stake after barely defeating League One team Bolton Wanderers in a third-round replay.
